Things I have learned about Italy after being here for a little over an hour: 1) The lady at the cab company wants to be sure you have cash for the fare before they pick you up, so that they can still get paid if you are die on the way to your hotel and cant use your credit card. Seriously! I have never had such a frightening experience in my life! The information from the hotel said the cab ride from the airport was 20 minutes; our driver did it in under 12, primarily by driving down the middle of the road, directly into the face of oncoming traffic. 2) The hotel bathroom has a bidet, which is not terribly unusual in Europe except that ours also has a soap dish with a package of Fine Facial Soap in it, and a phone on the wall right next to your head. Apparently, in Italy it is customary to sit on the bidet, wash your face, and call your mother, all at the same time... 3) When you turn on the tv and see a terribly young Sean Connery, aka James Bond, speaking enthusiastic Italian, you realize that it may be time to turn off the television and read for awhile...
