Things I learned on CNN and Facebook this morning (aka a timesaver for all my peeps, brought to you by yours truly). 1. There is still muy bueno ice on Lake Superior. On June 2. 2. The Antarctic ice cap has apparently GROWN by an astounding 35%. This is also the second year of growth in the cap. If you were straddling the fence on global warming, this will not really help, as someone will certainly tell you some other portion of the world is experiencing record heat in 5, 4, 3, 2 … . 3. Lots of yall kissed your guns this weekend. Like, actually put your lips to the wood and gave em a smooch. 4. The dead turkey photos have dwindled down to a trickle and the deer in velvet trail cam pics are picking up where the gobblers left off. 5. The soldier/prisoner release from the Taliban is apparently--and already--buried in a garbage dumps worth of controversy and conspiracy. Also, we DO apparently now negotiate with terrorists, so the worlds got that going for it. 6. Donald Sterling, in a bid for the most insincere and obvious PR stunt award, is now attending a mostly African American church, where the pastor is helping him learn new ways. That’ll be fun with his recent Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Also, his fame-beggin’ lover V. Stiviano continues to wear her designer welder’s mask, but now with good reason, as apparently she was attacked and punched in the face several times. All in all, this circus is giving Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Baily a run for their money. 7. Saveur, a magazine for foodies, has a video on how to hull strawberries, because, well, that’s really technical, professional-level stuff right there. I expect a tutorial on how to peel a banana next. In fact, I demand it. 8. Epicurious has a post that claims it has 10 things I don’t know about avocados. They’re wrong. I knew six of their 10 and the other four were just stupid and not anything anyone needs to know unless you have to put together something this useless for Epicurious. 9. Planes in air shows crashing—is it just me, or does this not happen All. The. Time. ? Statistics show that planes crashing to earth at high speeds are likely to kill those on board. 10. A doctor shopping at William-Sonoma discovered a dried, condensed sponge that springs to life when wet for work in the kitchen. That doctor turned the concept into a wound sponge. Xstat is an injection of tiny sponges with an anti-hemorrhagic agent that get injected into a wound (the slant is for gunshot wounds), and then expand to fill and plug the hole. Apparently works in seconds.
