Things That Were Better Than They Needed To Be #1: Holly Valance - Kiss Kiss In 2002 Holly Valance was a) a hotty and b) out of Neighbours. So although she slightly missed the peak period when hotties (male and female alike) from soap operas could hardly fail to do well in the charts, her first single would probably have gone Top Ten if it was a version of Theres No One Quite Like Grandma, as long as it had an eyecatching video and she did a million interviews. As it happens, there are times in this vid when she appears to be naked. She made a big show of not understanding what the fuss was about, which is always tiresome. But the controversy didnt half get her a lot of publicity. [I say controversy, but as usual with these things, no one ever actually complained, did they.] However: its a fantastic record. Its a cover of an English language version of a Turkish hit whose original title translates as Naughty; and its much better than the US original (of the English version) by aspiring starlet Stella Soleil. It got to No1 and the fact no one now remembers Hollys follow up Down Boy, even though it got to No2, proves my point. When this single was out, I won it in a competition in work.
