Things have come to quite a pass, when the Guardian (at least in its online edition) feels a need to justify why it is showing a small image of the front page of the new Charlie Hebdo magazine which has a picture of the prophet Mohammed with a sign saying I am Charlie. At the end of the Guardian article it states: The Guardian is running this cover as its news value warrants publication. And at the beginning, in bold, it states: Warning: this article contains the image of the magazine cover, which some may find offensive. I personally am pleased that the Guardian does not publish the rather offensive and prurient cartoons previously published in the magazine (if Charlie Hebdo wants to publish them, then I suppose let it do so), but surely the Guardian should not consider if necessary to justify the publication (or provide a warning) of the picture on this weeks cover. theguardian/media/2015/jan/13/charlie-hebdo-cover-magazine-prophet-muhammad
