Things people have said and done to me for dressing differently - TopicsExpress

Things people have said and done to me for dressing differently have been pretty similar to this... People have shouted abuse at me driving past out of their car windows, people have asked me if Im a voodoo person, that its not Halloween or asked me if Im dressed for Halloween. Theyve done cross signs at me, called me emo, asked if Ive slit my writs, told me to slit my wrists, asked if I worship the devil, thrown things at me, shown me the devil horns... Its all weird. Some people are generally curious and dont really know anything about the style I wear and ask genuine questions which is okay... But on a whole, most people on the streets just take the piss. I dont really understand why they enjoy taking the piss... Does it make them feel better about themselves or something? Seriously, people need to be more excepting of what people like and wear. Everyone is different, everyone likes different things... Whats the big deal? You like what you like, others like what they like... If you have nothing nice to say, keep it to yourself. Things like this get annoying and its really pathetic and stupid. No I am not emo, no I am not goth, no I do not worship the devil or anything religious, no Im not a voodoo person. And no, you dont have to dress dark to self harm, anyone can self harm. Asking if someone slits their wrists is completely out of order and rude. The more polite way to ask, is only if the topic comes up and you are close friends. It is a personal topic, and the real name for it, is self harm, not the rude, horrible term slitting wrists or whatever. Just stop. Random people always ask me, do you slit your wrists because I wear a lot of black. I just like the colour black, so I wear it. Just because I dress like this, it doesnt mean I self harm. These random people wouldnt go up to a random girl wearing all pink and blue jeans and ask do you slit your wrists?, no, they just ask the people wearing black. Stupid stereotyping. A person wearing all pink or any bright colour listens to pop, and does and likes normal stuff, could also self harm. Self harm is something even elderly people could do, or a young person could do, a black, white, asian or any person of any race could do. Style is just what a person likes to wear and self harm has nothing to do with any style. Personally I think this stuff should be taught at school so their wouldnt be as many ignorant people putting others down as there are still now.
