Things we think are fact but are likely not. Reading up on the probable circumstances of the birth of Jesus. He was likely born in the fall. In December, the shepherds would NOT be in the field at night. Also, Jesus was likely born in a house. The practice of the time was to bring your animals inside your house on the first floor at night. This was to protect the animal from theft, to provide warmth and so you could have access to the milk of the animal. Also read that dung was used for fuel! So maybe our warmer weather this December makes it more like the weather at the time of the birth of Jesus. The little wooden stables in nativity scenes always bug me b/c it is likely not accurate.I do not think there were many wooden structures in that place at that time. Bible scholars - please share your thoughts!! :)
