Things you need to know about studying at a University - Differences between School and Tertiary World: *You have to comply with the minimum requirements of your course. * Classes are big sometimes as big as 500 people in a class! * There are no lecturers looking after you – it’s up to you to take notes and attend classes. · * University is a balancing act between your social life and the rest of your life (your studies!) so make sure you have balance! * That being said it may be hard to make friends in the sea of new people at university so join clubs and day houses to do so! * There are no bells ringing and you might even get lost on campus in the first few weeks. * If you fail your subjects, it is goodbye. There are many students eager for your place. * Universities dont accept slang, sms lingo or anything other than proper English and full sentences! * A pass at university is 50% – not 40% and not 30%. * Its best that you brush up on your computer literacy as you will need to do research online and submit assignments in specific formats. * Your student card becomes your passport, without that you are lost. * You are competing with thousands of other students. * You, and only you, have to take responsibility for your actions and behaviour to be successful.
