Think Ive repaired the 2008 iMac.The Yosemite upgrade went badly. VERY badly! It basically died, and I couldnt get past the grey screen. No apple logo, no spinning wheel, occasionally a mouse pointer but nothing else. Wouldnt read from a bootable Yosemite USB stick, and a bootable partition on an external HD just kept hanging. I genuinely thought it was an ex-iMac, expected the HD had died or similar. Eventually, after much gnashing of teeth I had to use my original OSX Mountain Lion DVD, boot from that, then use the disk utility to format and journal the drive, before installing Mountain Lion from disk! From there to updating the Mountain Lion install, and THEN I was able to go to the app store and install Yosemite afresh. Seems to be firing on all cylinders now, but it was a frustrating few days! Not because I need the iMac per se, but just playing around trying to get something that worked fine up until an upgrade fixed. Go me!
