Think the #ALSICEBUCKETCHALLENGE is bad idea? Because it desensitizes us to issues when we share them frivolously on social media? Because only some people donate while many just dump ice on their heads? Because someone made a meme comparing Africa (a continent) and a nameless black child sipping a cap of water to America (a country, technically incorrect as North/South/Central are all America too) with a group of people dumping mass amounts of water on their heads? Because there are so many causes, why is this one getting the spotlight? Because you think people are doing it just to feel good about themselves? Because its not that cold? Because……. Get over yourself. I never researched ALS I never paid attention to ALS Now - because of this meme- I noticed, just like many of you. Clearly, this challenge is getting the attention the ALS community hoped for. I shall happily donate. Not to be public, not to pat myself on the back. But because I too can easily criticize, not out of hate but because I like to see things done better and holistically. But Im learning sometimes that means realizing it is what it is NOW, and something GOOD is coming from this possibly imperfect, possibly self-satifying, possibly wasteful meme. And that maybe..just maybe… what sometimes stops me, like many others from joining causes is not always lack of money, or lack of good cause, but pride.
