Thinking a lot about the past several years of my life. Looking - TopicsExpress

Thinking a lot about the past several years of my life. Looking ahead and pondering. Todays question is for my friends and family who are educators and specifically those in Special Education (or anyone else who has insight.) I struggle (and have for years) with the policies, requirements and legal hoops through which we all must jump. I feel as though we are all forced to compromise on doing our best instruction (including preparation, really thoughtful planning for individualized needs) for our students. I have experienced this challenge as a direct service provider and as an administrator. I do NOT want to compromise on whats best for students in terms of true, realistic, effective instruction that results in real and meaningful growth. So if the system is not going to change and I am not going to compromise for the students with whom I am entrusted, then HOW do I do this work without killing myself and making myself (and everyone around me) crazy?? I have wondered often and find myself wondering yet again, if I need to do something completely different because I am NOT willing to compromise for kids. If you have insight, have ideas, or have reconciled this in your own work, please share. I am listening!
