Thinking about 1 Cor 1:26-27... Reading through the Bible we notice that God chooses to use ordinary people. He often takes them from very humble beginnings as nobodies from nowhere and makes their faithful lives count as somebodies from somewhere. Joseph was sold into slavery. Moses was a poor baby in an ark sent down stream. David was a shepherd boy buried behind a field of strong brothers. But from these humble beginnings came saviors, prophets and kings. In the case of David note what God told Samuel concerning one of his brothers...Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart (1 Samuel 16:7 KJV). Now we know Joseph, Moses and David as heroes of the faith. But what about those that dont so much as receive honorable mention yet faithfully serve in the church week in and week out. I believe without these faithful stewards behind the scenes doing what they do there would be no church on the corner. God knows these people and to Him they are his extraordinary faithful stewards (1 Cor 4:2). In the three churches I have served as pastor I can list many of these. They never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the drawer yet they just keep on keeping on for Jesus. Today I wish happy birthday to one of the many of these even though they all deserve to be celebrated. Dont worry about knowing who these people are. God and their many dear friends already know and celebrate their faithfulness.
