Thinking about applying to UVIC law school. Eventually I see - TopicsExpress

Thinking about applying to UVIC law school. Eventually I see myself working with a non-profit or social justice advocacy group. Although all the organizations I have applied to work for in some capacity have not hired me. It is tough to parse out if it was qualifications or prejudice. I always feel a little paranoid when I think I was not hired because of discrimination, and yet it is a reality for many of us and the mere fact that I, and others, think about it, highlights how systemic it is. This leaves me wondering if all my hard work in school is ever actually going to outweigh who I am. I sometimes think I will just start something on my own and work with a bunch of really smart others who are also left behind by a system that works on conformity and appearances rather than merit. In the end all I really want is to help people and empower myself and others to create a sustainable and equitable society in exchange for food, shelter, and maybe the occasional chocolate bar.
