Thinking about unrecorded scores this evening. Probably the one - TopicsExpress

Thinking about unrecorded scores this evening. Probably the one that tops by list is Gerald Frieds score to ROOTS. His theme is one of my all-time favorites. Its been covered by Henry Mancini on an album and is included on Quincy Jones version of his ROOTS music, but the full, original soundtrack version and the many affecting variations and nuances of the main and subordinate themes remain disconcertingly unrecorded. The image is of a vinyl 3-LP set that Warner Bros issued in 1978, containing music, sound fx, and dialog that condensed the audio tracks from the miniseries onto 6 LP sides, but very very little of Frieds music appears uncovered by fx and dialog outside of the brief opening music. Heres hoping somebody can, er, root out the original tracks or restore a full orchestral recording of this fine score. Or am I the only one who has been waiting generations to hear it in all its folk-symphonic finery?
