Thinking lately about the effects of racism and classism on - TopicsExpress

Thinking lately about the effects of racism and classism on individuals and society, and how just as in individual progress after there have been mistakes, there has to be a complete honesty that goes over the whole ground of ones journey, and each thing must be honestly exposed and cleared away, that this is just as true for the collective. There is no stable progress on a faulty foundation. It occurred to me that the timing of everything that has been exposed in the murder in Ferguson, is part of the story of all that has to be honestly faced and healed in the heart of a country with a long history of racism, slavery and murder. Having recently read about the actual history of the first declaring of Thanksgiving coming not after a peaceful coming together of pilgrims and Native Americans to share a harvest meal, but after the brutal massacre of the Pequot tribe, I thought, can we address this history together at this time, and keep letting what needs to be healed come to the surface for healing? There has been so much progress in many ways, but theres so much that has turned into more subtle and insidious forms that then burst to the surface. Whatever the errors are that are enacted individually and collectively, its not enough to just move on.. The wound has to be loving met, and amends made to the extent that it heals the broken heart, and then there is healing (unity, wholeness) and we progress as one! This Thanksgiving can we celebrate this true sense of harvest.. Of weeding out the false and gathering the true, and come together to share and give thanks?
