Thinking of Grandmother who is out of surgery. She is from Cabin Creek and married my Grandfather Earl as an elopement. His Daddy (Charles) was an organizer who role modeled to men how to step out on faith OR strike! This is a story about Black, freed slaves, White, Scots, Irish, and Immigrants, Italian, and middle European...( I watched and 8 track cassette at their home every year.) They formed a Union and Grandmothers people started a Cab Company in the 40-50s. If you can watch all ten parts you are in for a treat and a tear.My people lived it. When you hear the place Holly Ford called out that is where they made the miners pitch tents cause it was federal government land. Kinda like Occupy. (out by the cold rail road tracks for 3 and 1/2 years they endured, dreaming of being treated with some common dignity and respect.) My Grandmothers best friend was a little black girl. The coal towns knew know difference in color in the 20 and 30s.
