Thinking of my Dad today. Dad, Walter Smokey Gordon was in Bastogne Belgium in 1944 with his brothers in Easy Company as well as all the other brave men of the 101st Airborne surrounded by the German Army. They were all but frozen and were told to get ready to fight again as the Germans were getting ready to attack. Dad dusted the snow off his machine gun preparing to fight when a shot from a German sniper hit him on the top of his shoulder going all the way through his back exiting the other shoulder. His brothers in arms pulled him from the foxhole and all thought his wound was fatal. Dad lived, was paralyzed for 6 weeks before getting movement in 1 finger and eventually recovered. Now as we celebrate with our families and loved ones take a moment to think about our brave men overseas that are away from their families this Christmas Eve but with their brothers in arms defending our country. And take a minute to say a prayer for the families that have sons and daughters that will never be home for Christmas again. See a vet or a soldier let them know you care.
