Third instalment of history of Bulli Lookout. During the war years Dolly had a lot of American soldiers at the shop. The Americans were working on the Picton and Mt Ousley roads which were fast tracked as a wartime emergency measure. If the Japanese had come to our shores the only way out would have been Bulli Pass and Lawrence Hargrave Drive. During the war it was very hard to get supplies. Wednesday was cream day during the war Dairy Farmers would have to pour the cream down the gutter. (I could never understand this ) During the Nixons tenancy the Lady Fuller Trust had a section of the south eastern front as well as all the southern and western side of the verandah glassed in Circa 1946. The tearoom had become too small for the number of customers they were serving. In late January each year Dolly , with her parents and sisters Flo Brown and Evelyn Hunter, would go and pick kerosene tins of blackberries. Dolly would then cook until three in the morning making the blackberry jam. During the last blackberry season Dolly made four hundred jars if jam, two large earthenware jars as well as lolly jars.
