Thirteen years ago today I was at work when I heard about the first plane. I felt an incredible need to have my babies with me, so I picked up My Beauty, then My Beast. Drove home while making a mental list of everything I would need. Ran in the house, grabbed everything, and headed south, away from DC. Meanwhile, my father was in a state of panic because his beloved Lisa was on a train headed for NYC. Also, my sister-in-law, Cynthia Lagasse Taylor, was on an airplane and nobody knew if it was one of the planes. Further, my Carolyne, and her family were terrified because her mom-in-law worked at the Capitol and of course they couldnt get through to her. But by the grace of God, by that evening, Lisa, Cindy, and Mama Joy were alive and accounted for. When I relive the day in my memory, I recall the sheer terror of my mother-in-law, my Carolyne, my father. I remember how I cried with joy and relief when each of these people were returned to us. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering of those people we lost, nor of those families who have had to live with the losses. All I can do is pray: for peace in the hearts and minds of the broken families, for an end to terrorism, and for the men and woman who put their lives on the line for others AND FOR THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD every day.
