Thirteen years ago we Clares/Biesemans/Phillipses lost our mom, Star. We were all a pretty tight family and mom was the center, the rock of our family. She didnt go one day without seeing at least one of us. No gathering was complete without mom sitting there in a corner, smoking her nasty cigarettes, joking with all of us from behind those big dark glasses. And always trying to feed us. She always said she didnt want to ever be a burden to her kids. We got the call and true to her word, she went quickly. Sometimes I forget shes gone, and Ill get excited about something and want to call her to tell her about it ... and then I remember. Today were still a close family and we all miss her with a hurt that probably wont ever heal, but we all carry on her spirit in different ways. If you know us, you know her: musical, outspoken, fun, optimistic, intelligent -- were all like her. Except for the duck-face selfies. I dont think those were her thing, Edmond. :) I post this whenever I want to bring my mom back around to share with my friends and family. If youve got a minute, please take the time to read it.
