Thirty four years ago I was a graduate student away from home at the University of California at Davis, and I was working out in the athletic center weight room in the evening, when the news that John Lennon had been shot and killed in NY passed through the place like some kind of poison gas. Everyone just stopped what they were doing and stood in stunned silence as what we heard sank in. They say anyone who was around at the time can remember exactly what they were doing and where they were when John Lennon was killed, and I think that is largely true.
