Thirty-two years ago I became a daddy for the second time, to my namesake, Marvin Joe Young, Jr.---Joey. Joey Young ---until then I had been Joey Young (still am for people from back in the day). Joey had my heart, and still has it. He grew up to be very different from me, but he is my son. It doesnt matter if he wears his hair a little different from mine, or thinks like artists with the left side of his brain. It doesnt matter if he married a Canadian instead of a Mexican. He is my namesake. Obviously Im crazy about all my children. His sister is Daddys little girl. His brother is my baby. But he is my firstborn son and my namesake. Junior. Every day, like the others, I pray for him. Sometimes I am so proud of him. Sometimes, as with the others, I am disappointed. But I always love my son, and have high hopes for him. I thank God today that I have a son, Joey Young, who is such a blessing to me. I cherish the memories of playing with him, sharing Jesus with him, fishing with him when he caught his first fish, hunting with him when he killed Bambi, teaching him to drive, raising calves with him, doing 4-H projects, correcting him when he caught the yard on fire, defending him when the ladies in his life were about to go ballistic when he was gong to kill a robin (I wasnt worried--he only had a homemade bow and arrow),..Joey Young will always be my son. I will invest my life and my emotional and spiritual energy in him until the day I die. Happy birthday, Joey.
