Thirty years ago today my son, Joe, came into this world. He was nearly born in a Chinese restaurant. I was at an ABWA meeting and thought I was having false labor pains because my water hadnt broken yet. I thought that was the way it always happened since thats the way it happened when Ben was born. Duh me. When my friend Pat Hubbard got to the meeting, she felt my stomach and said You Are In Labor!! She quickly drove me to my parents home where Doug and Ben were having dinner. Then drove Doug back to the restaurant to get my car. While they were gone I kept walking off the contractions by walking around the dining room table with Ben, age two, hot on my heels saying over and over again, What are we doing Mommy? What are we doing Mommy? And my parents were flying around the house not knowing what to do. Pat and Doug came back to get the car keys - Doug had forgotten to take them with him -- oops -- more walking around the table. Finally they came back again and Doug whisked me to the hospital. Thirty minutes later Joe Walker made his appearance. I called the restaurant to tell my ABWA group that I had just had a baby boy. It was quite a night. Happy birthday Joe! Life with you has always been one adventure after another! I love you much!!
