Thirtysome hikers got a preview of our winter GetHiking! Triangle - TopicsExpress

Thirtysome hikers got a preview of our winter GetHiking! Triangle season last night at our store in Cameron Village. New destinations include Occoneechee Mountain, Raven Rock State Park, Little River Regional Park (which we will hike this Sunday) and a new section of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail at Falls Lake. Plus, hikers got to choose which new destinations they’d like to hit: from five choices they elected Stone Mountain and Pilot Mountain state parks, both of which will be added to our hike schedule for March. We also had a killer warm-up act: 10-year-old Charlie Ramquist, who will be hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro with his dad, Neil, to raise money for CURED, a nonprofit focused on eosinophilic esophagitis and related diseases. Charlie, by the way, won one of the evening’s raffle prizes: a pair of high-tech hiking poles. Considering Kilimanjaro is the highest point in Africa at 19,340 feet, even Charlie and his young knees probably can benefit from some poles. Learn more about the climb at climbforee.org.
