This 1958 aerial photo is taken above Balboa and Devonshire looking west but the intersection is below the camera and isnt visible. Devonshire is the street with a little dogleg in it going up the middle of the photo past the racetrack. The racetrack is Devonshire Downs. Chatsworth is the large street on the right of the photo. Look carefully and you can see the curving street at the intersection of Zelzah and Chatsworth. Patrick Henry Jr. High is at the very bottom. At this time the school was all bungalows and trailers; the playing field is visible though. Andasol Elementary is not yet built. Mayall does not yet go through from Encino to White Oak and appears to not go through from Louise (not visible) to Andasol. Lassen is the street on the extreme left. It was a dirt road between Zelzah and Lindley. Lindley didnt go through to Devonshire until the the Police station was built in 70s or 80s. The historic cedar trees on White Oak between San Jose and Chatsworth are visible. Chatsworth is a more developed street than Devonshire at this time because it was the main street of Granada Hills. I put 1958 in quotes because I think this photo is more like 1956 or 1957. One would have to do some research but I think Andasol School (my alma mater) was being built in 1958 and here is just an unimproved open field with no signs of construction. Andasol opened in 1960. This and other great photos here: theoakridgeestate/vintage.html Includes shots of Barbara Stanwyck, Zeppo Marx, Desi Arnaz, Lucille Ball, Jack Oakie and lots of race horses.
