This 2nd Sunday of Advent the Church leads us to reflect on the person of John the Baptist, whom God sent to prepare the way of the Lord. While waiting for the Mesiah, John lived an austere life with locust and honey for food, with camels hair for clothing and the desert for his home. In the simplicity of his life nothing distracted him to absorb himself in prayer and contemplation. His spiritual disposition made him ready to welcome the Lord. His unique way is a challenge for us Christians of the modern times who are too much absorbed in material extravagance. How do we welcome Christmas? What preoccupies us this advent season? Let us empty our minds and hearts with worldly anxieties. Let us be simple this Christmas so that Jesus will have larger space in our life. May John the Baptist continue to inspire us in this Advent season. Have a Blessed Sunday!
