This American Life today is about teaching in America. Should are - TopicsExpress

This American Life today is about teaching in America. Should are programs be rigorous, or laid back? How can we find away for both students and teachers to honestly listen to each other? How do we deal with problem kids, and should we keep the zero tolerance policy? These are all great questions. Chaos in the classroom leads to destruction, destruction to punishment, punishment to resentment, and resentment to backlash. So it seems like zero tolerance in too many cases exacerbates misbehavior and builds a tenuous relationship between students and teachers. Unless we want to raise diffident kids, we need to look at restructuring our classrooms so that kids creative capacities are allowed at an equal level to the structure of the teacher, principle, school. But how do we do this? I think making a stimulating environment might work best towards a healthy student - teacher relationship.
