(contact event coordinators) Coming off the heels of one of the worst coal ash spills in history (in one of SMALLEST of their numerous ash ponds) Duke Energy, (the largest utility in the nation!), which has paid NO Federal Taxes since 2008 and GOT BACK $300 million in Federal subsidies, is seeking to put the burden of its illegal disasters on its rate payers. With the ascendance of the administration of “former” employee, NC Gov. Pat McCrory and ALEC legislators such as Thom Tillis, Duke Energy is using it’s considerable influence and resources to shut down Federal inquiry and force the government and media to sweep the whole issue under the rug, while all of Duke’s rate payers may face hundreds of millions if not billions in cumulative rate hikes.
