This BBC clip rightly demonstrates how the First World War was truly a global conflict and not just a European war -though undoubtedly, much of the heaviest and some of the most important fighting happened on the Western and Eastern fronts of that continent. What is important to remember now, is that the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, Bosnia on June 28th, 1914 and the subsequent July Crisis acted as a butterfly effect (to borrow from mathematical chaos theory), the catalyst which tipped the global geopolitical and economic complex adaptive system from seeming stability into the chaos of world war. As the historian David Olusoga argues on this clip, a European conflict spilled over into other continents, laying the potential seeds of the crises and issues we face today: https://m.youtube/watch?v=l9_zzBqIXBA&list=PL5A4nPQbUF8DgbYPfZnFTo9U_n2ELwLXi James Ellis Eriks Bredovskis Patrick LangilleHenry Law William Monie Bauer Saad Siddiqui Carman HuangStefano Scaini Andrew Pitkin Celladore Violet David Stewart James I.
