This Christmas Eve, there will be fewer cookies left out for Santa to eat at Brookfield Zoo. The animal care staff at the Hamill Family Play Zoo exhibit treated the zoo’s primates to some special holiday treats. The table was decorated with festive red paper plates and the feast included “cookies” made of primate chow and applesauce topped with yogurt frosting and dried cranberries and accompanied with sliced bananas and apples. To wash it all down, they had “milk” made of yogurt and water as well as diluted grape juice. To add to the holiday ambiance, the animal care staff decorated the lemurs’ exhibit with a fir tree adorned with ornaments; a handmade train set, which staff filled with fruit; and a backdrop fireplace where personalized stockings were hung for each lemur. Guests can see the ring-tailed lemurs—Butch, Dogwood, Moses, Ramses, Sam Bass, and Skinner—daily in the Hamill Family Play Zoo, including during the final days of Holiday Magic, which are December 26-31 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.
