This Day In Hockey History for March 25th… → 1907 - Montreal Quebec - Montreal Wanderers lose to Kenora Thistles but win Stanley Cup by scoring most total points in the 2 game series. → 1922 - Toronto goaltender John Roach blanked the Vancouver Millionaires 6-0, in the first shutout in Stanley Cup play by an NHL rookie. → 1924 - Montreal Quebec - Montreal Canadiens sweep Calgary Tigers in 2 for the Stanley Cup; second of 1924 → 1937 - Lionel Conacher of the Montreal Maroons took the NHLs first penalty shot in the playoffs. He was stopped by the Bruins Tiny Thompson who went on to shut out the Maroons 4-0, in Game Two of the Stanley Cup Quarter-Finals in Boston. → 1943 - Bostons Harvey Busher Jackson scored the first overtime shorthanded goal in playoff history as the Bruins beat Montreal, 3-2 in Game Three of the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals. Jackson scored the winner at 3:20 of overtime. → 1950 - Rookie goaltender Al Rollins recorded the first shutout of his NHL career to lead the Maple Leafs to an 8-0 win over the Bruins in Toronto. → 1951 - Detroits Alex Delvecchio played in his first NHL game. → 1951 - Rookie Reg Sinclair scored his first career hat trick to lead the Rangers to a 5-2 win over the Black Hawks in a penalty-free game played in Chicago. → 1962 - Bobby Hull became the third player in NHL history to score 50 goals in a season, tying the NHL record shared by Maurice Richard and Bernie Geoffrion, as Chicago lost 4-1 to the Rangers at New York. → 1972 - Detroits Alex Delvecchio became just the third player in NHL history to score 1,200 career points. → 1972 - Bobby Hull joined Gordie Howe to become only the second National Hockey League player to score 600 career goals. Hull played for the Chicago Blackhawks and Howe spent his NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings. → 1980 - Montreals Pierre Larouche became the first player in NHL history to score 50 goals with two different NHL teams. He notched #50 for the Canadiens in an 8-4 win over Chicago, after previously scoring 53 goals for Pittsburgh in 1975-76. → 1982 - Edmonton Alberta - Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers bags two goals and two assists against the Calgary Flames, becoming the first in the NHL to score 200 points in a season. → 1986 - Calgary Alberta - Montreal Canadians beat Calgary Flames 4-3 to win the NHL final series four games to one, and their record 23rd Stanley Cup. → 1995 - Detroits Scotty Bowman became the first coach in NHL history to record 900 career victories, when the Red Wings beat the Canucks 2-1 in Vancouver. → 1997 - Hartford Whalers announced that they would move from Connecticut, following the 1996-97 season. → 2001 - Jaromir Jagr became the first player in team history to appear in 800 games as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins → Happy birthdays to: Bill Barilko, Jean Potvin, Bert Gardiner, Andrei Nikolishin, Pat Hughes, Ted Bulley, Bruce Crowder, Dmitri Kvartalnov, Dwight Schofield, Jere Karalahti, Ken Wregget, Barclay Plager, Shawn Antoski and Lance Bouma…Ω
