This Day in Fort Scott History August 8, 1865 Capt Ira D. Bronson is mustered out with Company I, 2nd Arkansas Infantry. He enlisted as a Pvt in the 2nd KS Inf in May 1861, then became Regimental Drum Major for a short while. He also served with Co A 4th Ark Inf. Bronson came to KS in March 1857, living in Linn County. He moved to Fort Scott in 1870 as Clerk of the Dist Court. By 1880 he was a director of the St Louis, Fort Scott & Wichita Railroad (later incorporated into the MoPac). The line was built through the western Bourbon County town of Wilsonville, which was renamed Bronson in his honor.
