This Foundation lives and breathes their mission and this is why I have chosen them to help fuel my motivation to raise awareness and funds for IPF. - Michelle Propson, Team PFF Leader The 4th Annual Donna Schwartz Memorial Walk was hosted by Team PFF Event Leader, Michelle Propson, on September 20th. We hope you will take a moment to read her story and learn why it is so important for her family to spread awareness and raise funds for pulmonary fibrosis. Our first awareness walk was in September 2011, one year after my mom was diagnosed with IPF. I jumped into the PF world with both feet and it became my passion. I took care of my mom, took her to her Dr. appointments and watched this disease chip away the strong woman I have always known. My mom was so brave and she became my inspiration. Shirley Munoz had contacted my through Facebook and told me about an event she did for her husband Jamie, and asked if I would be interested in doing one as well. She told me about the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and how they would help me. I asked my mom what she thought and she liked the idea. She was so happy the day of her walk, surrounded by her family, walking (well, she was in a wheelchair) the streets of Crivitz,WI spreading awareness of the horrible disease that was taking her life. From the very first call I made to the PFF, and every correspondence since then, I have found them to be genuine. This Foundation lives and breathes their mission and this is why I have chosen them to help fuel my motivation to raise awareness and funds for IPF. Doing an event is not as difficult as it seems. The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation is very supportive and has an amazing Director of Community Events that will help you every step of the way. Your event can be as simple or as involved as you want it to be. The first year, I started by creating an event on Facebook and inviting my family and friends. The second walk was after my mom had passed away. The walk grew... and it was no longer just family. The third walk was easier, I had just continued on from the last one. More media exposure through social sites, local radio/tv stations and putting it in the local paper. The fourth walk was a little more challenging due to a crazy year, but it still was a success. My thoughts are that if just one more person comes to know about IPF from my moms walk, it is all worth it. My mom was not just a number to the PFF, nor are the countless others who are suffering or have succumbed to this disease or the caregivers who have to standby helplessly. We matter and they never stray from that. - Michelle Propson, Team PFF Event Leader
