This Friday, September 5th, the Embassy of Denmark along with the main donors in Kathmandu participated in ‘The Local Development Partners Meeting’ (LDM) hosted by the Ministry of Finance. The aim of the meeting was to present the key figures of the government’s foreign aid budget and open up for comments on how to improve and utilize foreign grants in the future, in order to support Nepal’s inclusive growth and deliver positive development results. Finance Minister, Ram Sharan Mahat, gave his remarks saying that collaboration between the ministry and donors are important to utilize foreign aid better in the new fiscal year 2014/15. The current total budget provided by the government entails a 7-year long-term development strategy for Nepal with its priorities in; employment generation, creating foundations for overall socio-economic development, economic growth, social physical infrastructure and poverty reduction’ for the year 2014/15. In addition agriculture serves as another high priority. Appreciating the overall budget some concerned were also made by the donors in terms of realistic and practical implementation planning and as a consequence of a long-term strategy the donors concerns were on how to provide direct help to the poor and disadvantaged groups of Nepal.
