This Friday-Sunday is PetSmarts PetSmart Saves Lives Adoption Event. While we recognize and appreciate what PetSmart Charities does for many shelters and rescues nationwide, we cannot align ourselves with an organization that still discriminates against pit bulls when it comes to their doggy day care group play sessions so you will not see us at any PetSmart locations with our adoptables. If you scroll down earlier today, you will see a video of 5 pit bulls and 2 dobermans happily playing together in our own Reactive Rover Rehab Program. Animal Cruelty Task Force of Ohio rescues animals across rural Ohio and works with shelters and Humane Societies statewide from Cleveland to the border of Kentucky. While we are a completely breed neutral organization, we find that many of the abused dogs we take in are pit bulls or bully breeds. All of our rescued dogs this year except for one has been adopted already or is listed as adoptable, or is currently undergoing rehab. The only pit bull we have had to euthanize this year was put down to a rapidly spreading tumor that came back after the initial masses were removed. What does that tell you about where the problem lies when it comes to this misunderstood group of dog breeds? With the humans, thats what we thought too. Cmon PetSmart, lets work together on creating realistic standards for group play based on temperament and not discrimination based on looks.
