This Friday evening Fr. Jamie will be giving a special presentation at the Journey Center in Santa Rosa called Abba, give me a word: Listening with the Desert Elders. In the 4th and 5th Centuries, Christians from all over the world converged on the dry wastes of Egypt, drawn by a radical commitment to the encounter with God. They went to one another for a word of guidance and many of these sayings were preserved as sustenance for Christian seekers ever since. Come and see how a word from the desert might echo in your heart. These early monks can seem foreign and forbidding to us today, yet their profound search for humility and compassion can resonate powerfully with our own quest. After a brief historical and theological introduction, we will listen prayerfully together to selected sayings, listen in silent meditation, and share the fruit of this encounter with one another.
