This Friday night we’ll return to the scene of the crime. At 9PM on November 14th we’ll take the stage at the Saxon Pub. November 14th is the day in 1770 when James Bruce discovered the source of the Blue Nile. In his honor we’ll perform “River”. On 11/14 in 1889 pioneering female journalist Nellie Bly began a successful attempt to travel around the world in less than 80 days. She completed the trip in 72 days. In her honor we’ll perform “This Train is Gone”. On Nov 14, 1952 the first regular UK Singles Chart was published by the New Musical Express. We’ll play our version of “Revolution”, a UK hit single, to commemorate this event. In 1957 on Nov. 14 law enforcement raided the home of Joe the Barber Barbara in Apalachin, New York and arrested many high level Mafia figures. We’ll play “Nobody Gets Hurt”. On Nov. 14, 1971 Mariner 9 entered orbit around Mars and in 2003 astronomers discovered 90377 Sedna, a Trans-Neptunian object (that’s a minor planet that orbits the Sun at a greater distance than Neptune). You know we gotta play “Trip Around the Sun” for both of those space events. Nov. 14 is the birthday of Aaron Copland, the American composer. It’s Barbara Huttons b’day too. She was the heiress to the Woolworth’s fortune. One of her 7 husbands was Cary Grant. They were called “Cash and Cary”. It’s also the birthday of Veronica Lake, American actress and singer. To remember her beautiful look, we’ll play “Bluest Eyes”. Other birthday boy is Sherwood Schwartz, American screenwriter/producer, creator of “Gilligans Island” and “The Brady Bunch”. You’re gonna have to show up to see whether we play the Gilligan or the Brady theme song. Although it is Josh Duhamel’s birthday, we won’t be playing “My Humps”. And finally it’s the birthday of the French painter, Claude Monet. Come on down and we’ll toast Claude and the other birthday boys and girls with a glass of Absinthe.
