This Friday we were in Jafo, Tel Aviv, doing some shopping at the market. While walking around I heard a burst of laughter, coming from a jewish man and a group of muslim women, who were having fun together. After that I started noticing how cool and friendly all the jews and arabs (bearded orthodox to secular hipsters) live and work together. Israeli friends told me this is very normal for them, all over the country, and I was stunned. How on earth is it possible that this image, of peace and respect, never reaches The Netherlands, and all we see here on television is that of supposed hate between these religions?
