This IS an awesome machine. Itll make short work of clearing a forest and splitting wood. Now imagine how many jobs are lost to this machine. Not complaining, its just the way it is, progress. Mechanization has probably been responsible for as much job loss as outsourcing. But you dont usually hear about that. Do you pump your own gas? Do you scan and pay for your own groceries? Do you look up numbers in a phone book? How many men does it take to load and unload those huge cargo ships now? You get the picture, Im sure, and its not hard to find other examples all around you. Sure, those high-tech jobs spawn their own set of secondary jobs such as maintenance and trouble-shooting as well as the never-ending quest for new innovations. Hopefully, our schools and colleges will catch up and start producing more people with the necessary skills to make a living in this high-tech environment - so long as they can afford the cost of school and training. Think about this next time you want to tell someone to Get a job or Instead of complaining about minimum wage, get a job that pays better.
