This Jeff Johnson mailer pretty well sums up the battle for the MNGOP endorsement. The key to a conservative to win statewide is the ability to hold the base AND appeal to independent voters. One cant run as a conservative but sanction stadium votes and energy mandates and expect to inspire the base. Conversely, one cant scare away independent voters by playing into their negative perceptions of conservatives as wealthy, rich guys. We must look at each candidate as independent voters will -- Will they like him? Will they trust him? Will they voter for him? For my money, Jeff Johnson passes that test.
