This Kickstarter project has fired the imagination of its global backers and it will likely far exceed its funding goals. Its a very cool idea, and it crosses-over in the interactive print response drivers using NFC or QR (what, no AR? :) - you could use AR as the end use of course. BUT, in fact TWO BUTS! BUT1 - turns out, due to the thickness of the Intellipaper stock you cant run this on conventional printing presses (see Printweek article in comment box) and BUT 2 - a USB device once stood for universal serial bus, now, of course, it refers to Ubiquitous Security Breach waiting to happen. Imagine some clever drive by hacker dude saying: hey hackmeister, we could get some of these, load em with our favorite malware of the day, and infect all kinds of devices from folks who got suckered by the wow factor. This concern is not said in jest. USB devices are a popular ad specialty printed promotional item to be given away at trade shows and so forth. WhatTheyThink wants me to write an article about the implicit #infosec issue with USBs. So, is this super clever innovation too clever by half?
