Here are some highlights from Septembers report: Golf Course Community Building: New pro shop is open since September 16th.County staff is working to facilitate the necessary work packages and contracting for the needed kitchen appliances to get the restaurant portion ready for occupancy targeted for November 2014. WR Library and WR Youth Activity Center Remodel: The Youth Activity Center was relocated to the White Rock Municipal Complex - Town Hall building to allow for simultaneous renovation of the YAC building. Site work is under way for the Library building with concrete scheduled to begin in late August. Project is scheduled to complete in Spring 2015. Teen Center: The contractor plans to complete all hazardous material (like asbestos) abatement work on the main level in September.The project site plan for revised parking lot layout at the corner of Trinity and 20th Street was approved by Planning and Zoning August 27. An additional community design presentation of the Teen Center was held on September 15 to make progress toward finalizing the renovation designs. Construction scheduled to begin in early 2015 with a move-in timeframe of July/Aug 2015. Nature Center: Framing is complete, and dried-in building should be complete prior to winter weather. Most of finishes and hardware has been selected, as most furnishings and AV system design. PEEC has completed exhibit design. Aquatic Center HVAC and Boiler replacement: Ship date for all equipment is confirmed on schedule. An approximate reopening date of mid-November is being announced to the public in case unknown building conditions require additional work and time by the contractor. The reopen date will be announced to the public two weeks prior to the reopening. Building Permits and Code Enforcement: This August had 57 permits vs. 47 last August, but valuations were 15 M vs. 2.1 M same time last year. Most permits are for roofing and siding, although there is a new home under permit, making this the second new home this year. Code Enforcement has surged with 88 complaints for the month. Weeds nourished by the much needed rain have been a big factor. While a number of cases were cited into Municipal Court, all but ten were resolved prior to court hearing. Retail: Manhattan project Bar and Grill hearing for liquor license is scheduled before Council October 10. Wine Bar and Beer Co-op build out continue slowly at Central Park Square. High Speed Internet - Information Management has scheduled installation of fast fiber for Attack Research in White Rock. Central Park Square is on board, and Economic Development is working with the hospital to arrange a discussion with their IT department about the project. Branding - The County’s Brand Review Committee has selected a Colorado-based firm specializing in place branding and marketing to bring Northstar Destination’s Brandprint Study Report to life, with the development of a three brand logo options and a preliminary brand implementation plan for presentation to Council within the next six months. MainStreet —Claimed as the signature event for Los Alamos County, MainStreet and the Creative District, the Los Alamos ScienceFest successfully doubled its programs and sponsors to feature interactive exhibits, dialogue and events over a nine-day period. Smart House and Smart Grid tours continue to be popular among local customers, regional, national and international stakeholders. Tours were recently provided for a group from Sandia National Labs, as well as for a member of Japan’s Diet (with the House of Representatives) Mr. Oshima. The President of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization, Mr. Kurata joined the tour as well. Canyon Rim Trail Bridge Design Project: The scope of this project is to design the continuation of the existing trail from Fire Station #6 west towards the new Smith’s Marketplace development. In 2014, the design consultant will focus on the design of the trail and an 80 – 120 foot span pedestrian bridge. Construction is scheduled in 2015. Staff is waiting for the state to authorize issuance of the Notice to Proceed so the design process may begin.
