This May 22, 2014 tornado in Schenectady County, NY happened to be very close to the NOAA Doppler Radar at Albany, offering an interesting look into the belly of the beast - the top frame is 3D velocity looking toward the northwest from near the radar site (the orange line at the surface interstate 88), and the bottom frame is a reflectivity view looking toward the east-northeast (the black circle in the lower right is the radar location). Keep in mind that the radar is only looking at the lower levels of the storm and theres alot going on higher-up than what you can see here, because its so close to the radar... But, thats what makes this so cool - you can almost see the shape of the tornado as it crosses I-88. Who needs a DOW anyway?
