This Na Naija! The policeman, who solicited for a bribe of N25,000 from a motorist in Lagos and his picture was posted on the social media, has been arrested. The arrest of the Police Sergeant, attached to the State Traffic Department of the State Police Command, was on the order of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Abubakar. The Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the arrest of the culprit, said he has already undergone Orderly Room trial at the State Command in Ikeja, GRA, and appropriate disciplinary action has been meted out to him. Checks by our correspondent revealed that the policeman has been dismissed. “He has been tried in orderly room and dismissed. His action was despicable and disgraceful and he is no longer fit to belong here (Police Force) because he is one of the bad eggs we need to weed out of the Nigeria Police Force,” our source said. It was gathered that the policeman had accosted a motorist in his car, who allegedly beat traffic light at Allen Avenue Roundabout and was demanding for N25,000 before he could let the motorist off the hook. The following conversation had ensued between them: Police Sergeant: Oga do something now, your money is N25,000 and once we enter this compound (station) I no dey follow you talk again oo. Motorist: I don’t have N25,000 please. I just bought my flight ticket and I don’t have N25,000, please. Policeman: Just do something, you know I am not alone, N2,000 would not be enough. Just add something better and I would let you go your way. Motorist: I have N5,000 with me and I am going back to Ajah and I am coming back to airport tomorrow. I cannot part with the N5,000, please. Policeman: Why are you telling me lies, no be 50 dollars and 20 pound I de see so for your hand; just do something better because I know say you cannot produce N25,000 now, but just do something better. It was gathered that the policeman did not know that the motorist, who was driving a Range Rover Utility Jeep, was recording their conversation in the pretext that he was trying to call somebody to come to his rescue. It was learnt that the policeman took the motorist to the police station after calling one Ade to prepare charges for the motorist, unknown to him also that the victim has already send the picture of the policeman and his conversation with him to the U-Tube. It was gathered that the IGP Abubakar, upon seeing the U-Tube video, did not waste time in ordering the arrest of the Police Sergeant and put him on Orderly Room trial.
