This Old Book A few years ago I had found an old book leaning against the side of fence in the front yard. I picked it up and looked through it. Inside the book were handwritten poems, with old news clippings of more poems on the inside of the front and back cover. The penmanship was outstanding. Earlier this year I reached for this book to revisit it. When I opened it one of clippings fell out. It revealed a dedication that read to Tom McEnery from your brother John. 1937. This old book belonged to San Joses former mayor. Today, I was able to give the book back to its rightful owner during lunch. He is not sure who had written the hundred pages of poetry but he would ask his brother. His father would have been around 30 when Tom received this book. At that time his father helped manage the St. Claire Hotel. He expressed his gratitude for returning this book back to him and asked for my email address so that he could share with me what his brother John remembers about this old book.
