This Paula Deen thing has really had me thinking. I will never forget the culture shock my family went through when we moved to Georgia. Having lived in Florida for ten years they had a really hard time with the obvious .... racial attitudes? of the south. I found it rather disturbing as a parent with kids who obviously are not purely caucasian. Inadvertently we experienced a white supremists influence from a fella our daughter was dating. I did the best to educate my kids about cultural influences and differences. I myself have had many prejudices to deal with throughout my own life. All this put a side, no matter how you feel about it, right is right and wrong is wrong. THAT is the most important lesson here! Paula Deen told the truth, admitted her wrong under oath, and apologized for behavior she no longer condones or agrees with. The message that is sent when she overcomes a cultural pitfall ..... she is canned? The only good this message is going to do...is create more opportunity for bigotry and lying in the future. Good Job Food Network and all the rest of you who have jumped on the media bandwagon to prosecute someone for overcoming a problem! Just another example of the direction this country is going in. SHAME ON YOU!
