This Saturday, July 26, we celebrate the feast day of St. Ann and St. Joachim, parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and we thank God for their devotiion. We can only believe that they were a great witness to faith and gave their child the grace to accept Gods will in all circumstances. It was their example of parenting that Mary must have followed when she raised her own Son, Jesus. Eventually, Mary would have to rely on the faith her parents gave her. She would stand courageously beneath the cross, watching her Son die. But she never let go of God or her prayer,Thy will be done. St. Ann and St. Joachim are an inspiration to anyone raising children. If you are a parent, a grandparent, or guardian, the Church blesses you in a special way.Like St. Ann and St. Joachim, may you always provide the loving home that encourages your children to grow strong in Gods love. And one day, we pray, may they give that gift to children of their own.
