This Saturday Nov. 2nd Tim DeChristopher @ 10am in Brooklyn: @ 2:30pm: Action at Spectra Site A very rare and special event: Tim DeChristopher, whose disruption of the sale of oil and gas leases was captured in the film, Bidder 70, and in a television interview with David Letterman, will be in NYC for a conversation with Jessica Roff of Occupy Sandy. Together with the audience, and in break-out groups afterwards, well explore what peaceful environmental activism means in the age of extreme extraction. What can we do to shift public consciousness to bring about change? Tim and Jessica will be joined by musician Bryan Cahall, whose song, Arise, was featured in the movie. Afterwards, Tim and Bryan will join us at the Spectra site (see details below). Saturday, Nov. 2nd @ 10am, First Unitarian Church,116 Pierrepont Street, Brooklyn Heights. Easy walk from most subway lines arriving downtown Brooklyn; fastest transit from 2/3 train one stop past Manhattan at Clark Street. Exit Clark Street station and turn right, following Henry Street away from the Brooklyn Bridge, one long block to Pierrepont, turn left, the church is just after Monroe Place. Lunch will be provided. Suggested donation to cover speaker travel costs: $25. No one will be turned away. Doors open 9:30am; event concludes approximately 1pm. As of Nov. 1st, the Spectra Line is Live. A 4 yellow plate is now the only evidence that the high-pressure, 30 diameter Spectra pipeline runs beneath the pavement, as joggers and bikers sail past the Gansevoort peninsula. The construction is now complete, and by Friday, November 1st, shale gas from the Marcellus and its associated radon will start flowing through this line in unknown proportions, directly into New York City boilers, laundromats, and kitchens. While some media attention is expected this week, we dont believe thats nearly enough, and we want to let people know whats happening. To that end, please join us on November 2nd(details below). Nov. 2nd @ 2:30pm: Action at Spectra Site After the morning event in Brooklyn, Tim will join us at the Spectra site, with his always-inspiring words, for a rally and action with elected officials (List in formation, TBA). We want to thank everyone who has been such a huge support during the two years that weve been protesting this pipeline, especially our loyal membership and the officials who are working on a law that would protect consumers from the dangers of radon. Assembly member Linda Rosenthal has launched a bill that will be back in play next legislative session, with support from (among many others) Health Committee Chair Richard Gottfried, State Senator Brad Hoylman, and on the local front, candidate for Manhattan Borough President, Gale Brewer and City Council candidate, Corey Johnson. This bill is our next line of defense against the shale gas invasion of our city, and we want to muster our forces to lend it big support! Throughout this fight, YOUVE been there with us, and we hope youll join us for this last splash at the Spectra site! Meet up on the promenade next to the river, just north of the crosswalk of the West Side Highway at Horatio St.
