This Sawfish was caught off the beach on May 19th. Dawn and Doug - TopicsExpress

This Sawfish was caught off the beach on May 19th. Dawn and Doug Bennett were on their honeymoon when they saw the fellow in the picture fighting to land the fish. Doug helped him land the fish. They noticed that there was a GPS tracking device on the dorsal fin so they called the Fish and Wildlife Department to report that the Sawfish had been caught and released unharmed. We first thought it was a Sawshark, but upon reading up on the internet, we found out that Sawsharks lived in waters with depths of 300. Our Gulf waters are much too shallow for them. Sawfish are also larger than Sawsharks. This one was about 10-12 long! Sawfish have their gills on the bottom side of the body much like rays.
