This Sunday, Nicola is holding Sponsored Bread Bake in support of Practical Action. When she was little she used to help her Papa, E.F. Schumacher (the founder of Practical Action), to bake bread for the family. Nicola says “Papa had a bit of a thing about baking bread for the family. He found it very therapeutic. He sourced organic wheat from Sam Mayall in Shropshire (Pimhill Farm just north of Shrewsbury where I live now funnily enough!) and ground it in our kitchen with a small electric mill - that made a dreadful racket! I will also use some Pimhill flour in my bake - they do wholemeal organic flour - so it all feels very like closing a circle ;-)” Thank you too to Matt Scott at Bacheldre Mill in Montgomery for providing sacks of stoneground white and rustic flour at a very special rate!
