This Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 on what would have been her 97th birthday, many churches will host a “Sunday of Remembrance” in honor of Rev. Dr. Ella P. Mitchell. Known by many as the “Dean of Black Women Preachers”, mother, teacher, preacher, author, editor of the five volume collection titled: “Those Preaching Women”, trailblazer, devoted wife. In an effort to preserve her legacy and aid students, especially women to pursue theological education, her beloved husband (Rev. Dr. Henry H. Mitchell – 95) and devoted family have established the Ella P. & Henry H. Mitchell Fund for Theological Education. mitchellfund.org.
